ABOUT JADE OAKLEY
Through my art practice I explore nature through a prism of optimism and beauty. In a spirit of discovery and experimentation in my studio practice I create delicate, joyful artworks. I am endlessly excited by the process of transforming materials from solid to ethereal, for example perforating metal by hand until it is more air than metal or creating kinetic artworks from steel that drift on a breath.
Much of my art practice is devoted to Public Artwork. To me the great challenge and delight of Public Artwork is adapting my delicate studio work to become large scale and enduring works. I am intimately involved in the process, collaborating with architects, designers and fabricators to transform the authentic, unique artwork created with my own hands through sophisticated, innovative fabrication processes without losing the ‘magic’ of the original work. Uplifting, enduring and etheral, my artworks connect communities to their environment.
HONEYCOMB STORY AND PHILOSOPHY
Light hearted and light footed, Honeycomb is an outlet for my creativity.
I love to work with my hands, and my creative urges are faster than the lengthy process of public artworks which can take years to complete. Honeycomb opens the possibility of nimble creativity and instant artistic gratification. With humour and playfulness I create Honeycomb mobiles and cards on a whim, exploring themes from my life and environment.
Honeycomb Mobiles tread lightly on the earth, using 100% recycled card with soy based inks and no plastic packaging.
